A Story of Three Books

Living gratefully today, I appreciate my feet and where they carry me throughout the day. I give thanks for socks to cover those feet on chilly mornings. Socks with no holes. So simple, and yet many go without.

Words. Also so simple. When put in composed order by an inspired writer, they can become profound and heart-warming. As I have written about in previous posts this fall, my sisters and I have now published three books of poetry. Our latest, “My Sister Said: Poems About Sistering” became available in September.

Here are those earlier posts:

A Tale of Two Journals and Three Books from September 17, 2022.

Sharing a Podium and Our Stories from October 5, 2022.

From the “Voices on Grand” event at Arts on Grand on October 1, I am now pleased to share the video clip of my portion of the event. In it, I tell the story of each of our three books and read selected poems from each. The words of all eight of us are shared in this clip. That makes me so proud, and also so humbly grateful to be part of the Holthaus sisterhood.

Here is the video clip. (It runs about 23 minutes in length.)

Thank you to the fine folks at Arts on Grand and Spencer Municipal Utilities for that evening and the video footage provided. And a special thanks to my friends Deb, Zoe, Arla, and Elli who joined me in person that night.

As I say in my introduction: “We honor each other and each other’s stories with the written word. And poetry is a very unique way of doing that.”

Connections matter–whether we are blood relatives, or brought together by shared experiences and challenges, or both. Words preserve and deepen the connections.

If you think poetry is not your thing, consider listening to a few here. They come off the page in new ways when they are read aloud, from the heart.

If you are looking for a gift idea, you can order our books here.

Write on. Listen on. Live on. Have a good day!
