Consider Aluminum
The A-Z list I am starting today begins with ALUMINUM. In 2,800 posts on my previous blog, Habitual Gratitude, aluminum never came up. Our world is full of so many treasures and mundane items that I guess this shouldn’t surprise me. Aluminum finally has a moment to shine. Pardon the pun.
I was making something in the kitchen the other day, and got out the aluminum foil, a frequent helper in our meal preparations. It provides a good cooking surface and saves on clean up. It works as an easy cover to keep things warm. It is quite versatile.
I wondered how what I easily roll out of the box came to be created. Nature and science make it possible, and plenty of mechanization and human ingenuity. I watched this 6-minute YouTube video titled How It's Made: Aluminum Foil to give me a brief lesson. I found it fascinating. I will more respectfully and gratefully grab the desired portion of aluminum foil off the roll next time I need it.
In my research on aluminum, I learned that BAUXITE is the sedimentary rock that includes several minerals, including aluminum. Mining bauxite is the first step in making aluminum foil.
BUTTONS also came to mind as I considered the letter “B.” I realized I have more zippers and clasps that aren’t buttons on my clothes. But I certainly appreciate that when I do encounter a button, my fingers work and can get the button through the buttonhole. These same fingers can also sew on a button when one comes off.
COLLABORATION with my sisters on three poetry COMPILATIONS brings my random start to this A-Z gratitude list to a close. In less than two years, we self-published three books of poetry. Check them out here. And we did it across thousands of miles of the North American CONTINENT. Not bad for seven sisters who all qualify for senior citizen discounts. I also suspect that there is more to come from our collaborating and compiling.
Just like there is more to come on this grateful alphabetic journey in my next post. Have a good day!
