Embracing Weighty Moments

Embracing the moment is my goal for daily living. And like my recovery from alcoholism, it is daily work for a daily dis-ease. So I write, ponder, pause, speak.

Here are some lines from my latest “open jam/open mic” offering at our local brewery, about this very idea:

Embracing the Moment

Embracing life as it unfolds, all of it. That is the secret, but isn’t it obvious too?

Embracing a tear running down my cheek. Whether in joy or in sorrow, a tear is worth a seek.

Embracing the moment of quiet snowfall, flake by amazingly unique flake. Consider being one among billions, just like us, just breathe for goodness sake.

Embracing the moment you first come out of anesthesia fog. Realizing that there will be a slow recovery slog. And also that this body, though never again the same, can be viewed healthy and within a new frame.

Embrace the moment when we realize, with wide open heart and eyes, that when life’s blender seems to grind and crush you and I, we ourselves added some of the ingredients. Release that insight with a sigh.

Embrace the world‘s healthiest beauty tip. Drink water throughout the day, sip by sip. Move your body in the ways you can. Make getting fresh air part of your daily plan.

Embrace the moment when the finality sinks in fully. A gate clangs shut, an emotional wall goes up like a nasty bully. Embrace the knowledge that this time calls for a new direction. Turn away from the wall, head this way, not the way you have already been.

Embrace the moment, this earned place of wiser and older. More confidence, grace, and a voice that has grown bolder.

Embrace the moment when your tired body and taxed brain hit the bed. Listen to your heart- “nice work today” is what it said.

Embrace the weightiness of life and embrace the stunning possibilities that arrive. The fresh snowfall, weighing down branches and covering fences, made for a beautiful winterscape. Weighty emotions can make for times of awareness and transformation.

The sun and blue skies return. Hope is bright again. Our perspective is fresh and airy. Growth follows.

Spring break is around the corner. See you back here in a couple of weeks.

Embrace the weighty moments. Onward!
