Waves and Blessings: An Invitation
Today I am grateful for the deep purple clematis blossoms we are enjoying in our yard currently, the invitation that exists in a sunny morning, and the simple wisdom of waves and blessings.
I don’t tire of gazing into the rich color in a vine full of blossoms. These look different than my last photo shared here because these today are bathed in morning sunlight. It reminds me to consider what kind of light I am carrying in my heart and how it shapes my inner and outer view.
My husband Darcy and I took a walk this morning along one of my favorite stretches of trail. We didn’t stop to sit at this bench, but it beckoned me as an invitation to slow my head down and not get caught up in all I thought I might be able to get done today. One thing at a time. Live, attend, enjoy.
I regularly use the Ritual app (Their tagline is “Small steps to a better life.”) It’s a very affordable app, and if you find Rosemerry Wahtola Trommer (RWT), Alex Elle, Matt Bloom, Kathleen Cahalan and others sharing their practices, you are in the right place. On Monday, poet RWT shared a poem titled “Analog” about a friend waving on his way past her house. Author Matt Bloom talked about “Simple Blessings.”
A wave. Human to human. No screens involved. The good old-fashioned kind. Maybe it’s a neighbor, a friend we see across the store aisles, or a stranger letting me go first at an intersection. Connection, simple and real. It matters. (In the case of RWT’s poem, it’s a one-sided wave, but she still feels her friend’s warm gesture even if she doesn’t see it.)
Blessings. Finding those right in front of us. For me, on my back patio right now: a soothing water fountain, citronella candles, a light breeze, so many colors to see. Blessings also remind me that I can send blessings out to others. Call it a prayer or an intention if you want. I can even send blessings to those who are currently a challenge to me or who have left me with some negative emotions. “Bless them. Change me.”
I invite you to look for opportunities to wave to others today, to send blessings out into the Universe. Connections, seen and unseen. They matter. Onward!
