What? No Moose?

We saw amazing scenery in Alaska, and sea otters, harbor seals, a partial-breaching of a humpback whale, and plenty of salmon heading to spawn. Wow!

No moose though. We looked high and low and went to places where they are regularly spotted, but no luck. We saw plenty of moose on signs, wall art, taxidermy exhibits . . . but none in the wilds of Alaska, or even on the streets or sidewalks of Anchorage, which isn’t unheard of. Heck, a few weeks ago, Aileen and John could look over the fence in their backyard and see a mama moose and her calf, until the vacant lot there became a road construction staging area.

We got way more laughs about moose than we did actual sightings. Oh well!

What a treat to see the creatures that we did, and signs such as these below.

When we walked into the Ted Stevens International Airport for our return trip home, one of the first things we saw was a moose on exhibit. Life’s ironies. I wonder what its story was while it lived.

Life is full of ironies. Near misses. Near sightings. Pay attention. Even if we don’t always see what we are looking for, we will notice plenty worth seeing. And it will make a difference in our days. Onward!
