One Leads to Another, to Another . . .

As I sit in the silence of the early morning, one of my favorite times of the day, I am savoring the need for blankets and jackets with the return to seasonable temperatures.

And I return to a simple living gratefully practice—a list of 10 things for which I am grateful this week:

  1. That Zoom is available and a convenient way to take part in activities from the comfort of home, Last evening, it allowed me to listen to others read their poetry.

  2. New shoes in a new style and color. I wore my first pair of ankle boots yesterday. They are also my first pair of gray shoes. We had a pretty good day together.

  3. The newness led to a little soreness in my feet by the end of the day, but I am so grateful that my feet are strong and capable, whether I am walking, running, or taking steps from one room to another in my house.

  4. This house and the room I am sitting in now. There is light, and several seating options, and I had my pick of different blankets to use. Such a blessing to have the security and comfort of shelter.

  5. Our dog Oliver slept through the night. He does that less and less as he ages, so it is appreciated when he does.

  6. Oliver’s place in our family for the last fifteen years and the place he has in my heart. He reminds me of the patience and grace I can also extend to myself as I age.

  7. Having our son Sam with us as he finishes his last semester of college. He helps out by mowing lawn, making some meals, helping clean up, doing his own laundry, and more.

  8. I can ease into letting him go as he nears the next steps in his own life. Letting go is necessary daily in my life, across the board, or I end up cluttered and irritable by evening.

  9. My husband Darcy and conversations we share. We come at situations and plans differently, but typically arrive at the same goal.

  10. How simply starting a gratitude list generates more things to bring gratefulness to my day and in my heart. One leads to another, to another . . .

Here’s to the day ahead, a moment at a time, an hour at a time. Onward!
