Use the Light

Light is something I am grateful for in many ways. The coming daylight of a fresh day is one of my favorite experiences to witness. The ease of electricity and phone flashlights and sensor lights are all appreciated as well.

Be the light. See the light. These are certainly worthy endeavors, and ones that I pursue in ongoing fashion. They take work and energy, but they give back in new light. Which leads me to my next thought: Don’t forget to use the light you have Lisa. This thought arrived in a mundane moment. Okay, I was looking for chin hairs to pull. Oh, the joys of advanced womanhood. You lose hair where you don’t want to and you get hair where you don’t want it. Anyway, the extra light helped me locate a couple of stragglers and bid them adieu.

Use the light. The light of human compassion and understanding. The light of worthwhile contributions to our families, communities and world. We all have such light. We can all give it and receive it. So why is it lacking? There is much that can block the light, and some of that is beyond our personal control, but some is not. We sometimes limit our own radiance. Maybe we are surrounded by good fortune, but feel unworthy. Or because of our blessings, we hesitate to mention the hardships because so many people have it so much worse.

It’s not a contest. We can embrace our ample blessings and also acknowledge the difficulties that have shaped our lives. No one is unscathed by life’s events and experiences. It is during such times that we, and those around us, most benefit from seeing the light and being the light. Hardships harden in the dark. They become more pliable and easier to let go when exposed to light. As far as I can tell, healthy processing, forgiveness, and resilience are light-seeking. They are also, in my opinion, efforts that require assistance and support from more than our own selves and resources. Let others be the light so we can better see the light.

What if we each considered it one of our human responsibilities to use the light available to us? I think our world would be illuminated in the ways that matter most. Go forth today and use the light. Onward!
