Magic Brushes
Here it is already. The last day of another month. April is about to give way to May. Magic and grace continue to find their way to me, to my heart, mind, body and soul.
The magic of letting go continues to work magic in my days. The simplicity of grace keeps showing up. Pause. Give attention. Breathe. Notice.
This month has been about letting go in the workplace. It’s the time in a school year where energy wanes and patience shortens. Where we have one foot in finishing this year and the other in starting to plan and prepare for the next. Changes are coming again, but that need not burden the day at hand. Bringing good energy today is all I need to do.
Letting go of ego is always so helpful—at school, at home, in my own head. And that calmer, less chaotic mind helps us find new ways to do old things. After years of sponges and scrubbing pads, these brushes bring some simple new magic to the daily task of doing the dishes. We still have to do the work, but there’s a little magic in soap dispensing and a scrubbing brush that fits comfortably in the palm of my hand.
As the gratefulness flows for new gadgets, soap, and warm water, my mind lets go of things that only burden and tire it. This makes room for memories of all the dishes we washed growing up, the teamwork involved, the scrubbing pads we used. Sometimes there was music and laughter. Sometimes we fought about whose turn it was to do what. But the dishes always got done and were ready for our next meal.
When a mind lets go, it makes room for insightful questions, like why did they call these chore boys when it was always girls doing the dishes? The question brought a smile. It wasn’t a perfect world growing up. It isn’t a perfect world now. It is a world that offers magic and grace each day. Thanks again Laurel!
